Revival

Liladar Swarup, the last inheritor of the Ruling Seat of Kashi Sarvajnapeetha at Manikarnika Ghat, left his inheritance to THE SPH in his will. He trusted Sri Tiruchi Swamigal and pontiffs from Atal Peetha and Mahanirvani Peetha, Sri Sukhudevanandaji, and Vishvadevanandaji, to protect the throne until THE SPH took reign. In 2008, following their guidance and blessings, Radheshyam Khemka, Geetha Press trustee, handed over the kingdom to THE SPH.

Declared as the Successor of the Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha

1999

After the great Śri Adi Shankaracharya had revived the lineage of Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha more than 1000 years ago, the next great reviver of Kāshi was Totapuri, the guru of Śri Ramakrishna and master of Vedanta who generated a massive chain of enlightened beings to protect Hinduism when it was in need.

One of Totapuri’s disciples was Shivapuri Baba, a contemporary of Śri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Śri Shivapuri Baba initiated Śri Tiruchi Swamigal, Swami Ranganathanandaji of The Ramakrishna Order and Śri Hamsananada Puri.

Śri Shivapuri Baba designated Śri Hamsananda Puri as the successor of the lineage of Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha. Śri Hamsananda Puri initiated Mataji Vibhutananda Puri, the guru of The SPH, into sanyas. In 1999, before leaving the body, Śri Hamsananda Puri now bore the responsibility to find the most perfect inheritor who would revive Kāshi. In his last months on Earth, Śri Hamsananda Puri was blessed to be taken care of by Paramaśiva Himself in the form of The SPH. Being moved by the energy of the SPH, Hamsananda Puri declared the Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism Bhagavān Nithyānanda Paramashivam as the successor of the ancient Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha. Having recognized The SPH as the incarnation of Paramaśiva, since He was merely 12 years of age, he entrusted Him with the responsibility of carrying on this sacred knowledge seat (Sarvajnapeetha) of Kāshi, and the knowledge tradition of Vedanta.

The Expansion

2008

The Guru Peetha (the spiritual throne) of the Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha is the Śri Jagadhatri Temple at the Dashasvamedha Ghat along with the Mahakal Temple at Manikarnika Ghat. These heritage sites are the spiritual nerve centers of the Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha and have been inherited by The SPH. On the banks of the sacred river Ganga, The SPH expanded the revival of Kāshi Sarvajnapeetha with the inauguration of an aadheenam (temple-monastery complex) near Manikarnika Ghat.
